Indian Head Massage

  • Indian head massage is based on the Indian ayurvedic system of healing, which teaches self-care and prevention of illness.
  • It is a holistic therapy in which the upper-back, upper arms, neck, head and face areas are massaged with the purpose of manipulating energy channels.
  • The aim is to clear blocks in these energy channels that cause a build-up of negative energy which will eventually lead to illness.
  • When the energy does not flow properly, negative energy builds up, causing common ailments such as stress, insomnia, muscular tension ,headaches, migraine, sinusitis, neck and shoulder stiffness amongst other things.
  • The therapist uses a range of different movements including application of effleurage, petrissage, deep kneading, pressure points, compression and friction movements over shoulder, neck, head, and scalp areas. In addition, the therapist will also gently stimulate and stroke pressure points on the face.
  • A professional Indian head massage should in fact feel like a full-body massage, as the effects of treatment are felt throughout the entire body. This is because there are several important acupressure points on the head.
