Hot Stone Therapy
- This is a style of deep massage in which stones of varying sizes are placed at specific sites on the client's body to promote relaxation and to help open up the meridians (energy pathways).
- The stones are water heated, smooth, sterile basalt stones.
- The therapist places these stones along the energy centres (charkas) of the body, causing healing to occur. These stones seem to connect with the flow of energy to rebalance the physical body, emotional mind and spirit as one.
- Muscles are pre-treated with the heated stones giving a deep massage and creating sensations of comfort and warmth and allowing the therapist perform deep tissue manipulations more easily.
- The therapist uses traditional strokes of Swedish massage while holding a heated stone. One massage movement with a hot stone is equivalent of six basic massage moves.
- The client can request light, medium or deep pressure which is the beauty of the hot stone massage technique. It can be customized in an instant to the request of the client.
- The hardness of the stones makes for a fantastic deep tissue massage.
- Cool marble stones are sometimes used alternately with hot stones. If you have inflammation or muscle injury, cold stones are used.
- Aromatherapy essential oils are usually incorporated into the massage treatment to add to the benefits.
